Clint Lovelady - Policing with Compassion

Clint Lovelady, from the Grass Valley Police Department (GVPD), sat down with us to talk about the law enforcement side of homelessness. He applied and was accepted in the Strategic Response Team with the GVPD in 2014.

What he has learned about working with the homeless as a police officer is to BE A HUMAN, and let people get to know you. He can approach homeless people and have a conversation with them to build a relationship and trust. Once that has been established, he can talk to them when they are sober and get to solving issues in a better way.

He shared the different levels of homelessness he has seen through these years, and speaks again to the fact that not all homeless people are alike. There are many reasons why people become homeless.

He shared a success story about a woman who found her way to recovery and attributes it to Officer Lovelady. That helps as he has not seen very many success stories. We are inspired by his compassion and believe there will be many more success stories with Officer Lovelady building relationship with the community.
